Meet Diamond K Adatia: A Journey from Humble Beginnings to Entrepreneurial Success

In 1980, I took a leap of faith. I had been working as a controller for a manufacturing company, but I realized I no longer wanted to be an employee; I wanted to be an entrepreneur. An intrapreneur, to be exact, where I could dictate my work, set my own hours, and determine the value of my services. The harder I worked, the more I could support my clients, and the more I could earn. This was the beginning of my journey.

Back then, I started small, with a humble office in Southeast Calgary. There were no fancy tools - just a dial-up phone, no Internet, handwritten ledgers, and no computer. I was a one-person team. But the opportunity arose when I saw a practice for sale nearby, and I seized it. Two years later, I acquired another practice, and that's how my business began to grow. Word of mouth brought in referrals, and I knew that I was on the right path.

Over time, my team expanded. What started as a one-person operation soon had one part-time staff member working from home. Today, I'm proud to have four full-time staff members and additional remote support on a part-time basis. The goal was, and always has been, to be available to our clients when they need us. When a client calls, they need help or advice, and we are committed to providing immediate assistance. We believe in minimal voicemail messages, and if they are necessary, we make sure to respond promptly. Our mission is clear: to assist our clients in growing their businesses and making them successful.

To provide the best service possible, I have always sought help when needed from experts like tax lawyers and realtors for valuations. I believe in leveraging the strengths of specialists to ensure that our clients receive the best possible service. Just as a family physician can't perform the job of a surgeon, we make sure our clients always come out as winners.

We uphold the highest ethical standards, ensuring client information remains confidential, and we follow all professional codes of conduct. We emphasize politeness and humility in our interactions with clients, always striving to offer them the respect and service they deserve.

As for my personal journey, my name is Diamond K Adatia, CPA, CA, and I am the President of Diamond K Adatia Professional Corporation. My journey began in 1980 when I chose to follow a different path than the one I initially envisioned. I was supposed to study engineering, which was my dream. However, I couldn't get into university right after high school, so I made the second-best choice and headed to England to become a Chartered Accountant. I worked as an articled clerk, earning a meager $8.00 per week. To make ends meet, I worked at a grocery store on Sundays, spending the day cutting chicken for the rotisserie. It paid the $3.00 weekly hostel rent. I was fortunate to receive a small bursary from my community association, which provided essential financial support during that challenging period. These experiences taught me the value of hard work, and it’s where my story began.
